PREA Compliance – Train the Trainer: Juvenile Justice Partners

Course Summary: This four-hour Train the Trainer (TTT) program prepares juvenile correctional officers and administration to train juvenile justice legal partners, CBOs and vendors to confidently deliver a focused one-hour course on PREA reporting Obligations. This program acknowledges the unique professional role of vendors, legal partners: attorneys and advocates encounter youth in juvenile justice settings as advocates and officers of the court, not as custodians. This TTT prepares trainers to teach that nuance with accuracy and professional credibility, equipping them to facilitate discussion, model critical thinking, and address professional resistance or confusion from legal audiences.

Performance Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

    1. Explain mandatory PREA reporting obligations as they apply to juvenile justice vendors, community based organizations (CBO), legal partners, including attorneys, investigators, and support staff.
    2. Distinguish between a vendor, CBO, legal professional’s ethical duties, their PREA-related obligations, and their role as a conduit for youth to access reporting mechanisms.
    3. Navigate complex scenarios involving client confidentiality, attorney-client privilege, and mandatory reporting in a juvenile context.
    4. Articulate the internal and external reporting channels available within juvenile facilities and the broader system.
    5. Apply adult learning principles to deliver the 1-hour condensed course to vendors, community based organizations, legal colleagues and agency staff.
    6. Facilitate discussion, model critical thinking, and address professional resistance or confusion from legal audiences.
